30 Seconds To Mars is one of the more theatrical of current rock bands, noted for its innovation, drive, passion, and excellence. It consists of Jared Leto, who is not only a fabulous singer and songwriter, but who is also a movie star, his brother Shannon, and friend Tomo Milicevic.

The Leto brothers created Thirty Seconds To Mars alone and were signed to a recording contract in 1998. In 2002 they released the first Thirty Seconds To Mars album together.
Forty songs were considered for the second album “A Beautiful Lie” (copywritten in 2005) which included the music of Tomo and bass player Matt Wachter and received worldwide acclaim. In March of 2007 Matt Wachter left the band.


Shannon LetoShannon Leto

Shannon Leto was born on March 9, 1970 in Louisiana, USA. The Sun, Mercury, and Venus are all in Pisces in Shannon Leto’s chart. The sign Pisces is governed by Neptune, the planet that rules our ability to access the higher mind and to create music. Tomo Milicevic (Milièeviæ), the lead guitarist of Thirty Seconds To Mars born on September 3, 1979 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (Bosnia) is a quintessential Virgo, having four planets in that sign. The precise action and perfection of the Virgo influence can be heard in his music. As in Shannon’s chart, Tomo’s contains a Mars/Saturn connection, which designates that his energy be utilized through diligent service to a project.

Jared Leto, the singer, songwriter of Thirty Seconds To Mars was born on December 26, 1971 in Louisiana, USA. His chart indicates that Jared has Sun in Capricorn, the most industrious and determined sign of the zodiac. But, he also has three planets (Mercury, Jupiter, and Neptune) in the sign Sagittarius, which adds considerable lightness and optimism to his personality. Well placed in the astrological chart this combination is unbeatable for self-fulfillment and success. Capricorn is a sign that shows steady growth and surefooted well-rooted achievement.

Both Mars and the Moon changed signs on the day he was born. (The Moon went from Aries to Taurus and Mars changed from Pisces to Aries.) No matter what, he would have some Aries influence, which would give him the energy to propel himself toward his intended goals. Here we have a personality that wants to do what occurs to him, what inspires him, and wants to get it done in the very best way possible. ON MERCURY
A band needs to communicate well with one another. Conversation is ruled by Mercury. In Shannon’s chart Mercury is in Pisces. He would be one who would dream up ideas to make things even better than what they are. Shannon’s Mercury squares Jared’s Neptune. There would be occasions of misunderstandings. But Shannon’s introspection is necessary to the creativity of the band. From time to time Jared’s artistic drive may thwart Shannon’s need to express himself. Jared’s Mercury is in Sagittarius, inspiring and adding definition to them both.
Tomo’s Mercury is a link that connects the band. It is in Virgo, opposite Shannon’s. His ideas are grounded in fact. The placement of Neptune in Shannon and Jared’s charts is conjunct in Sagittarius. (Again, please see the Placebo page for a discussion of Neptune.)


Because Shannon’s Sun is square Tomo’s Neptune, Tomo’s inspiration to create music could occasionally be challenged by Shannon’s drive to ensure that all the fans are pleased with what they hear. But the square is relieved by a trine from Shannon’s Sun to Tomo’s Uranus, which gives Tomo the ability to produce music that is unique and innovative enough to placate any unrest. Not only that, but Tomo’s Neptune is conjunct Jared’s Jupiter, which boosts Jared inspiration.



VENUS

Another very interesting astrological fact about the three band members is that each have Venus in a different sign, which indicates that their musical tastes vary. Shannon’s Venus is in Pisces, so his tastes lean towards the imaginative. (Shannon’s Venus and Jared’s Mars are conjunct. Jared’s energy inspires Shannon to release his intensity and passion.) Jared’s Venus in Aquarius guides him to eclectic styles, and Tomo’s is in Virgo. He could like many styles, as long as they’re perfect.



30 Seconds to Mars’ bass player, Matt Wachter, left the band in the spring of 2007. His chart shows a person who would feel the need to explore many areas of life. It’s easy to see why Jared wanted him in the band. Matt’s Sun is in Capricorn (as is Jared’s), his Neptune is exactly conjunct Jared’s Mercury, so he was able to musically enhance Jared’s ideas; and his Venus is right on Jared and Shannon’s Neptune’s, so he must have loved the music. Not only that, but his Mercury is conjunct Jared’s Venus. There is a depth of understanding between these two charts. That he and Jared played together must have been very fulfilling for both.
