Each year at our birthdays, when the Sun comes exactly to the same spot it was in when we were born, it is called our Solar Return. At this time we can cast a chart and compare it to the birth chart to see what will be influencing us over our personal year.

Here's an example written for a person whose birthday was December 19, for her personal year December 19, 2009 to December 18, 2010:
Your Solar Return will happen at 12:53 PM on December 18 this year. Aries will be Rising in the Solar Return chart. This will give you a lot of forward moving energy. You will be stimulated by excitement and things that cause events to happen and by promoting yourself in the world. Jupiter and Neptune are conjunct in the Solar Return chart. Neptune rules our spirituality and our appreciation of art and music. Jupiter enlarges things and makes them more grandiose. It also is the ruler of your Sun Sign, Sagittarius. So, the expression your higher mind will be more inspired this year than usual. Where last year’s Solar Return chart had Mars at the highest point indicating a year of physical activity, this year’s chart shows Venus at the pinnacle point conjunct your birth Mercury. It will be a better year this year for relationships with friends, loved ones, communication in general and for creating beautiful things. Venus is also sextile to your Neptune which will provide you opportunities to relate to a new partner or a new awareness on a more fulfilling, higher level. Here's an example written for a person whose birthday is June 23, comparing her chart to the chart of the New Year:
Happy New Year! This will be a year when no grass grows under your feet! You will be eager to get things going in your life and impatient with obstacles. 2010’s Moon is conjunct your Uranus urges you to act on impulse and to respond emotionally instead of logically. But 2010’s Mercury will attempt to slow the pace and bring you back to basic rational thought processes. 2010’s Mercury is also trine your Venus and sextile your Moon, so you will be acting in your own best interest and in the interest of those people and things with whom you relate the best. Pluto is making an aspect to your Ascendant that will continually give moments when the answer becomes clear and you can act upon it. (The following is our synopsis for the year: 2010 is a year during which we will find people reaching out to others for advice, partnerships, and career climbing. People will act a bit more responsibly than they did in 2009. Our sense of duty was buried in our subconscious last year, but in 2010 it surfaces and people become more reserved. Money and time was spent on preserving the integrity of our homes then, but this year our energy will be used more on building our hopes and dreams and getting ourselves to our goals. The Moon was in Pisces on 2009’s birth chart showing a dreamy year; a time for inspiration, but little power to get to where we wanted to be. 2010’s Moon is in the sign Cancer in the 10th house. We will make a supreme effort to take care of the things we want to grow. (The focus will be mostly on what we do in our outer lives). Pluto makes prominent angles that urge us to take control of anything that isn’t delivering our expectations. Mercury was the void of course planet in 2009, just about to change signs, so our communications were unclear and important messages may have been lost, overlooked, or misinterpreted. 2010’s Mercury is retrograde in Capricorn in opposition to the Moon. This year’s communications will be pensive. We will learn from last year’s mistakes and draw upon that knowledge. Our challenge will be to separate thoughts from feelings. (For example: How do we get ahead at work while someone needs us at home?) The Moon will urge us to go with the flow, but Mercury’s position wants us to plant our feet firmly before taking action. This is compounded by a Mercury/Mars angle that throws doubt our way. We have to take care of a lot of things this year, so we’ll need to overcome that reservation and go for it!

Your Moon Sign is Leo. Leo is the sign of strength and romance. A person with the Moon in Leo cares about children, maybe because you can relate so well to them. You know how to have fun! Here's an example of the Venus Sign report:
You have Venus in Libra in the fourth house of your chart. This is a beautiful placement for one who will always enjoy the comforts of home and family. You are a person who can equally take pleasure in quiet times alone and in social events. When you were born Venus was in a very nice aspect to Jupiter. When this angle is activated it can make you lucky in love! If you are looking for a new relationship, there will be an opportunities between May 19 and June 22 of this year as transiting Jupiter conjuncts your Venus. Another lucky period of time will come in October and November, when both Jupiter and Venus transit your fifth house of romance. A most glorious time to develop exciting relationships will happen after January of 2010, when your Progressed Venus will enter the fifth house and your feelings will change from the more introverted nature that they are now.
